What connects conscious consumption, a sustainable lifestyle, and wildlife protection? Re:Bazaar is an urban event dedicated to sustainable practices, recycling, reusing quality items, inspiring talks, and fun activities. The event takes place every month at different locations across the city, bringing together people who are looking for more sustainable and mindful ways of living.
This time, Green Balkans joined Re:Bazaar as a Green Guest, with our cause focusing on a small but remarkable representative of Bulgaria’s wildlife – the Lesser Kestrel. Our participation supported the initiative “From Plovdiv to Kliment – Supporting the Lesser Kestrel”, as part of our conservation efforts for the species under the project Life for the Lesser Kestrel (LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017).
Nature Through Children’s Eyes
At our educational stand, the youngest visitors had the opportunity to discover the Lesser Kestrel in a fun and creative way. The children could decorate their own T-shirts with an image of a Lesser Kestrel or color a picture featuring storks.
As they got creative, they also learned more about the Lesser Kestrel – what it looks like, where it lives, and why protecting it is so important. The stork pictures, meanwhile, allowed us to tell visitors about Green Balkans’ work to protect the White Stork in the village of Belozem – a cause we support thanks to our partnership with FUTURE – You & The Planet.
For us, events like this are valuable because they show that talking about nature can be educational, fun, and inspiring at the same time. Sometimes, a simple drawing or a colorful T-shirt is all it takes to spark a child’s curiosity about the world of wildlife.
One Small Bird, One Big Cause
The Lesser Kestrel is a small falcon, but its conservation is a major cause. For this rare species to have a future, it is important not only to work in the field, but also to raise awareness – to help people get to know and recognize this remarkable bird.
Events such as Re:Bazaar allow us to connect people with conservation causes in an accessible and engaging way. Caring for nature begins with getting to know it – sometimes with one small bird, one colorful T-shirt, and one curious child asking, “Why?”
