Natura 2000 Day in Pleven

On May 27 we celebrated the Natura 2000 Day in Pleven, part of our big tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of the network.

Our team welcomed over 90 visitors at the RHM Pleven where we had prepared a photo exhibition dedicated to Natura 2000 in our country with attractive photos of protected areas and species from Bulgaria by our friend the photographer Emil Enchev and our own photo archive.

Visiting students learned more about the Natura 2000 network in Bulgaria, covering over 35% of our territory with 120 special protected areas dedicated to protecting wild bird species and 233 special areas of conservation dedicated to the protection of wild habitats. Among other things, our work aims to attract citizen support for their protection.

We had also prepared a presentation about some of the most interesting species we discussed with children as well as the importance of species protection worldwide. Everyone enjoyed our educational puzzle game with interesting facts and the additional educational materials, games, flyers and stickers we had provided.

The most exciting part were definitely our feathered helpers from the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Centre – Vladko the kestrel and Chara the Tawny Owl which attracted young and old. Everyone learned more about our work at the Rescue Centre and some of the more interesting cases they’ve got.

We’d like to thank the Regional Historic Museum in Pleven for welcoming us and to all visitors for their interest.
