Book about dolphins, the sea, ecology and everything else

An important part of the Green Balkans activities through the years, among many other causes of public benefit, is the study and conservation of cetaceans (dolphins) in the Black Sea. For more than 10 years working in the field, we have been able to gather invaluable data on the dynamics of the populations of these enigmatic mammals in the Bulgarian sea waters, to acquire skills to apply leading globally-proven methodologies, to promote the results among young and interested groups of society, establish contacts with experts from other Black Sea countries as well as countries outside the Black Sea region and exchange experience with them. All this, of course, is in the name of the environment without which none of us can.

But all of the above would not have been possible without the participation and support of all the people we are facing in our work. The involvement of society in ecosystem conservation activities, the source of our resources, is key and determinative of the outcome of all the efforts we make together. However, this assistance requires awareness. People need to know what they are participating in, why they are participating and how they are participating. What lies behind the cramped terms and does all of this ultimately have any effect on their daily lives.

That’s why, we of the Organization team have prepared this booklet, available for download below, where we answer all your questions, concerns and doubts. We break myths, present results so far in a comprehensible way, and systematize information gathered over the years by many tireless scientists and researchers. At the end of the booklet you will also be able to familiarize yourself with the sources we used, in case you need more and more detailed information.

Important part of the book is a collection of short stories inspired by the marine surveys and written by our volunteer Teodora Ilieva who is a key member of the cetacean survey team being a perfect example how science and nature inspire arts.

You can get a hard copy of the booklet at our office. Thank you for taking the time to read this booklet. Thank you for sharing it with friends, acquaintances, colleagues. We at the Organization team remain at your disposal for questions, suggestions and criticism.
