First contemporary sighting of Eastern imperial eagle in ‘Vrachanski Balkan’ NP

21.06.2019
A young eastern imperial eagle was seen on the 18-20 June 2019 at the feeding station at the Dolno Ozirovo village! The bird was observed feeding several times at the feeding station.

According to our colleagues at the ‘Vrachanski Balkan’ Nature Park, this is the first contemporary sighting of the species at the Nature Park. The species is very rare for the Northwest regions of the country and contemporary observation of imperial eagles an true rarity.

The eastern imperial eagle is a globally endangered species, one of the rarest species of eagles, with about 30 nesting pairs mainly situated in the southeast parts of Bulgaria.

Our colleagues at the ‘Vrachanski Balkan’ Nature Park are extremely happy with the observation since the species is not common in the region of northwest Bulgaria!
