Green Balkans participated in a common LIFE+ projects’ meeting in Bulgaria

The fourth common meeting of projects implemented under the LIFE+ program of the EU took place on September 25th, 2014 in the town of Balchik.
 
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss important issues arising during the implementation of the projects of both technical and financial/administrative nature. The hosts of the event - Balchik SFA and their already completed project “Conservation and restoration of Black Sea Oak Habitats” LIFE09 NAT/BG/000229 acquainted the participants with their results.
 
Green Balkans was represented in the meeting by representatives of “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 and “Vultures’ Return in Bulgaria” LIFE08 NAT/BG/278 projects, implemented with the support of the LIFE program of the European Union. The meeting was also attended by other leading NGOs in the field of nature conservation such as BBF, BSPB, WWF, governmental institutions such as the Executive Forests Agency, “EVN Bulgaria”, as well as other organizations implementing projects funded by LIFE.
 
Representatives of the administration of the LIFE program and the NATURE unit of DG Environment of the European Commission, as well as members of the monitoring team of the Program were among the key participants in the event. The EC representatives praised the projects implemented in Bulgaria in the field of nature conservation.
 
LIFE program is a specialized tool of the EU, supporting projects in the field of nature conservation. Since 2007, 19 projects have been funded in Bulgaria, totaling up to more than EUR 30 million, invested in conservation activities in the country http://ec.europa.eu/.
