These initiatives are part of “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project funded by the EU LIFE Program.

On September 20th, 2014 Green Balkans’ team presented “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project before lovers of “man’s best friends”- dogs, during the dog show in the town of Harmanli. The first kennel show in Harmanli in decades involved professional cynologists and dog breeders from the region, as well as pet lovers. Considering the fact that the territory of Harmanli municipality includes parts of Sakar SPA, as well as the opportunity to present the project objectives and activities before the locals, Green Balkans’ team arranged a special kiosk. There, during the dog show, the guests had the chance to learn interesting facts about the endangered Lesser Kestrels. The young nature lovers enjoyed the models of flying real-size Lesser Kestrels as well as spotting scope observations of various bird species in the area. The participants in the dog show were given promotional materials - posters, T-shirts and leaflets.

A few days later, on September 25th, 2014 in the village of Levka, a meeting was held between Green Balkans, farmers, and producers from the region of Svilengrad. The team of the organization delivered a detailed presentation of the project “Greater chance for Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) in Bulgaria – Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360. The special focus of the presentation were the project activities directly related to farmers, agricultural practices, and the related effect on the Lesser Kestrels and other rare species in Sakar, such as the Imperial Eagle.
