Meeting for Discussing the Challenges for Protecting Birds from Electrocution in Bulgaria

Between 24 and 25 October, Environmental Centre “Lomovete” in Nisovo village, hosted the expert meeting on discussing the challenges for protecting birds from electrocution in Bulgaria. The meeting was organized by Friends of Nature Park “Rusenski Lom” Club as part of the DANUBEPARKS Connected project.
 
An expert from Green Balkans presented the “Lesser Kestrel Recovery” LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 project. As part of the actions of the project, a survey was carried out and securing of the powerline grid in the project target area – “Sakar”, “Byala reka”, and “Krumovitsa” Protected Areas. Over 200 powerline posts were secured. Furthermore, a series of expert meetings were held, including ones with international participation, as well as a training trip to Germany in order to be introduced to the experience and best practises on the subject. The results reached by the project were highly evaluated by the participants in the expert meeting, natures park directories, consultant firms, NGOs and powersupply firms.
 
On the second meeting day, a Municipal information centre Ruse expert presented the potential Eu financial mechanisms, possible for the realization for activities in securing the powerline network. The participants were united around the need to act for the securing the powerline network, not only in the boundaries of the protected area, but also outside them.
