Regular monitoring of birds in Pomorie Lake - nests, newly hatched chicks and first signs of autumn migration

During the monitoring we had the pleasure to observ the chicks of the Sandwich terns in the colony on the artificial island built by volunteers of the Association. The chicks are already in the phase of their first feathers, actively fed and cared for by their parents, and very soon they will make their first flight. In a slightly earlier stage of their development are the juveniles of the Common terns, whose colony for another year is located on the islet in the salt pan in front of the Salt Museum.

Finally it’s time to announce the finalists in our competition for GREEN journalism – Wild Chestnut 2022 in which we aim to award journalist working on the themes of nature, Natura 2000, protected areas and species, in 5 categories.

Green Balkans visited the Rodina Library Children Department in Stara Zagora

On the 5th July we visited our friends at the Rodina Library Children Department in Stara Zagora where we met children from 1st to 4th grades to talk about interesting rare species in Bulgaria. The event was part of the Magical Library – Summer 2022 initiative at the library carrying on from 13th June till 31st August, Mon-Fri from 10-12:30 AM.

Increasing the species diversity of grazing animals in the “Sinite Kamani” NP

13 cows of the “Bulgarian brown” cattle breed will be part of Green Balkans and the Sinite Kamani Nature Park Directorate's activities to restore rare species in the park. The cows were purchased on purpose, as part of the activities of Green Balkans to restore grazing livestock, grassland habitats and maintain the populations of rare species in the nature park.

Our team joined the official opening of the Stara Zagora Zoo

At the end of last week our team joined the opening of the renovated Stara Zagora zoo. A lot of curious, enthusiastic new visitors came to see the new looks of the local zoo and also learned more about protected species in our country.
