Presenting the project "Lesser Kestrel Recovery" LIFE11 NAT/BG/360 during a cross-border conference in Turkey

On September 18th-19th, in the Turkish town of Demirköy, a common conference took place focusing on the conservation of the biological diversity in the cross-border areas of Bulgaria and Turkey and, in particular, the Strandzha Mountain – a region situated on either side of the border. The project “Joint Istranca Region Protection for Sustainable Development” 2007CB16IPO008-2013-3-041 is implemented within Bulgaria-Turkey IPA Cross-border program 2007-2013 CCI No 2007CB16IPO008. The lead beneficiary is DAYKO Foundation of Protection of Natural Life, Turkey, implementing the project in partnership with the Bulgarian NGOs – “Europe and We” Association and “Green Balkans – Pomorie branch”.
The activities implemented by Green Balkans and the project „Lesser Kestrel Recovery“ LIFE11 NAT/BG/360, aimed at studying the Lesser Kestrels in Turkey, were presented during the international event. The partnership established by Green Balkans and DAYKO in this area of activity is a wonderful example of cooperation between nature conservation organizations at cross-border level.
The conference was attended by the Mayor of Demirköy - Muhlis Yavuz, the Director of the local Forestry Board, as well as representatives of local stakeholders. The Bulgarian guests included the Mayor of Malko Tarnovo – Iliyan Yanchev, the Director of Strandzha Nature Park, representatives of the municipalities of Sozopol and Burgas, the Regional Inspectorate of Education – Burgas, etc.
