The 15 finalists from the “WILD CHESTNUT” GREEN JOURNALISM contest

16.11.2020
Today we announce the names of the journalists who were nominated in the last month and a half to participate in the National “Wild Chestnut” Competition for Green Journalism.

The aim of the "Wild Chestnut" competition for GREEN journalism is to reward journalists for their contribution to the coverage of topics about nature, Natura 2000, protected species and protected areas. The competition is divided into 5 categories:
• television
• radio
• print media
• online media
• blog

We received over 47 forms, both from citizens who value the work of journalists and from journalists themselves, who work in the fields of nature, Natura 2000 and biodiversity.
The jury had the difficult task to select 3 finalists from a total of 43 nominees, divided into 5 categories based on:
• Journalistic mastery and creative approach.
• Objectivity and reliability of information sources.
• Scope of natural topics.

The original materials were evaluated by an expert jury - the "Natura 2000 in Bulgaria - New Horizons" project team - Aneliya Pavlova, Green Balkans coordinator, Anushka Eneva - Bg Top Music (Hobby TV), Marinela Velichkova - Darik Radio Coordinator (program coordinator of Darik Radio), Lyubomir Vasilev - Economedia Coordinator (Executive Director and Chairman of the Management Board of Capital Foundation).

And the ceremony? The official award ceremony to announce the winners in each of the five categories will take place on December 6, 2020. In accordance with the current pandemic situation the special award for the 15 finalists and the official ceremony taking place on December 5-6, 2020 will be postponed. We had planned to acquaint all finalists with the "Natura 2000 in Bulgaria - New Horizons" project activities for the protection of the target species. We had also planned a direct participation in the Green Balkans conservation activities in the “Vrachanski Balkan” protected area part of the Natura 2000 network. The event will not be canceled, but only postponed! We hope that in August 2021 we will all have the opportunity to make it happen together!

We will hold the official award ceremony online on December 6 :)
