A huge mural will be painted on the EVN building in Plovdiv thanks to Green Balkans

The painting of the first huge mural in Plovdiv will begin in April 2021 as part of the ”NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria – New horizons” LIFE17 GIE/BG/371 project  under the LIFE programme of EU. It will illustrate a Bearded Vulture - a symbol of Bulgarian nature conservation. The location of the mural is going to be the external façade of EVN building with address 236 Vasil Levski bul in Plovdiv near the entrance of TPP Plovdiv North.

Thus Plovdiv becomes one of the cities in Bulgaria with murals of emblematic species of European conservation importance.

The street mural will be done by the artists from “140 ideas” studio – one of the most famous graffiti artists in Bulgaria. The deadline for execution is expected to last about a week. The EVN company provided all the necessary technical equipment to ensure all safety requirements are fully respected.

Until now EVN assisted the artists from “140 ideas” studio in the painting of the Lesser Kestrel mural on the façade of a school in Svilengrad.

Interesting facts about the Bearded Vulture:
  • The Bearded Vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) is a large bird of prey which due to numerous threats became extinct in Bulgaria in the middle of 70s. Despite all of this a big number of conservation organisations in Bulgaria implement long term plans and projects for returning the species in the country. The Bearded Vulture is a conservation object in the European network NATURA 2000.
  • The Bearded Vulture is one of the largest vultures in Europe. Its size is impressive – the wingspan can reach 2, 8 m and its weight up to 8 kg.
  • The Bearded Vulture is considered a symbol of Bulgarian nature conservation – its silhouette is placed at every protected area and tree in the country.
  • All vultures are united under the nickname “wildlife sanitarians”, because they feed with dead animals and the Bearded Vulture – even with bones. This way, the birds keep animals and people safe from the spread of diseases and infections.

EVN Bulgaria supports the efforts of Green Balkans for returning the species in the country by implementing projects for securing dangerous for the birds power lines from the electricity grid.

The joint activities followed a long-term cooperation between the two organisations for environmental conservation activities.
