We present to you our new clip aimed at popularizing the European ecological network Natura 2000 in Bulgaria.
NATURA 2000 is the world’s largest coordinated network for the protection of biodiversity in the World. Its creation aims at the long-term protection of the most important species and habitats of importance to the Community, as the protection of nature has been the basis since the creation of the EU, as one of the Union’s first priorities. At present, the European network “Natura 2000” includes over 27,300 protected areas, occupying a total of more than 1 million square kilometers and 18% of the territory of the EU, 28 European countries. Natura 2000 covers 114 areas for the protection of wild birds and 228 areas for the protection of habitats and species other than birds. Animals, plants and natural habitats of European importance are protected within the network.
The main character in the animation is the red-breasted goose, which is one of the target species for which our organization works. The species is included in a number of national and international conservation regulations, listed in the “Vulnerable” category of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Red list), which places it among the species threatened with extinction on a global scale. At the end of the 1990s, the world population was estimated at 88,000 individuals, but in the following 10 years its number decreased by almost half and is currently estimated at only 44,000–56,000 individuals (BirdLife International 2020).
The animation was made by animation studio Animart EOOD, under the project “Natura 2000 in Bulgaria - NEW HORIZONS” LIFE17 GIE/BG/000371 and will be broadcast by Hobby TV, with the aim of promoting the nature and scope of the Natura 2000 network.
