Bat Night Also in Velingrad

For  second year in a row, “Hristo Botev” National Professional High School of Forestry took active part  in the International  campaign for celebrating the Bat Night. In accordance with the tradition participants in the event  are eight grade students  managed by eng. Philip Ustabashiev.

Green Balkans took part in  the High School’s event by providing informational  and educational materials  for the participants in the initiative.

All the activities thematically dedicated  to bats were carried out on 25th, 26th and 28th of October  together with students from the three eight grade classes in the conference school hall. At the beginning eng. Philip Ustabashiev  presented the most interesting details about  bats worldwide and in our country, as well as about  the “Bat Night” international campaign.

The quiz “The Secret world of bats”caused the greatest interest and provoked the participants’ knowledge. A total of 14 students took part in it.

You can learn more about the event on the web site of “Hristo Botev” National Professional High School of Forestry – Velingrad HERE.

We would like to thank to eng. Philip Ustabashiev and the management of of “Hristo Botev” National Professional High School of Forestry for the good cooperation.

About the initiative:
The event is celebrated on the EUROBATS secretariat’s initiative under the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats.
Celebrated  for the first time 25 years ago, today The European Bat Night is organized in more than 30 countries, among them Bulgaria. In 2012 USA, the Philippines, Azerbaijan, Israel, Tunisia, Ukraine and Lebanon joined the event as well. Due to this fact, the Bat Night became an international act, going beyond the scope of the “Old continent”, which aims to raise the public awareness about the importance of one of the most interesting species on the planet, as well as to introduce more people to the unique way of bats’ life. Usually the countries from Western Europe celebrate The Bat Night in the last weekend of August, but in Bulgaria the students are yet in vacation. That’s why we wait them to return in the classrooms and after 15th of September the information campaign will run.

Green Balkan is a member of BatLife Europe international organization with the support of KFFOE (Austrian Coordination Centre for Bat Conservation and Research).
