Enlisted as an endangered species in the Bulgarian Red data book, protected on the territory of the country (Bulgarian biodiversity act) and subject to conservation under the environmental network NATURA 2000, the Pigmy cormorant (Microcarbo pygmaeus) is a species suffering the negative impact by people.
On the 10th December the Green Balkans team participated in the ‘Prevention of bird crimes and wildlife’ training seminar, organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds.

We are sad to report that one of the first wild-hatched Bearded Vultures in Switzerland has died. Even though the vulture was shot, it seems that he died from a territorial fight with a Golden eagle.

Today we are celebrating the World Diptera Day! Despite the fact that the Green Balkans activities regarding insects are not as large-scale as our programs for birds, cetaceans and bats, we’d still like to increase the public awareness of insects and their importance, particularly those, belonging to the Diptera order.
